Most Decadent House?

March 2nd, 2011

India's richest man, Mukesh Ambani, has built a new home in the financial hub of Mumbai: a towering but ugly palace with helipad, health club and six floors of car parking. Just including six floors of parking in the building attributes to the decadence of this project, with the vast majority of the inhabitants of Mumbai and the labourers who built his wealth not being able by far to afford own ONE vehicle!

The building, named Antilla after a mythical island, has a floor area greater than Versailles and be the residence for Mr. Ambani, his mother, wife, three children and 600 staff. Featuring hanging gardens, the building will have a whole floor for a home theater, a glass-fronted apartment for guests, and a two-level health club. With the ceilings being more than twice as high as a normal building's, the 173m 27-story tower will be equivalent to a building 60-storys high. Building price estimates vary widely, with a consensus of around 1-2 Billion Dollars. Ambani's Reliance Group is India's largest private company, with stakes in oil, retail and biotechnology. The Indian economy is soaring and he is one of the few elite who are reaping it's substantial rewards, the vast majority of the country remains as poor or even poorer than it was in 1947, when India gained independence from Britain.
